Beauty, to me, is anything that attracts a person. Beauty can be "ugly", in a sense, because you can be attracted to something that isn't good or healthy for you. Nevertheless, even the harmful, addictive things you can find on Earth are "beautiful" in their own right. They may not be good or morally sound, but they have a certain luster or glimmer about them that draws you in and makes you feel as though you need this thing (whatever it is), to be happy.
I think that capital "B" Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. Beauty is what we desire, whether for ourselves or IN other things/people. It attracts us, it makes us do things, it nearly forces us to fall in love and not necessarily with other people either. Beauty, with a capital "B", is breathtaking in a sense and unbearable in another. True beauty is contained within one's soul and tainted by the flesh that surrounds it. Yay no school! Beauty doesn't ever run out, it does not dry out like a creek in the summer time, it's forever and only the viewer changes how it is seen. This is what I believe Beauty really is.
So, I had already typed something up but then decided it didn't really make sense so I'm going to try again. Instead of using the word beauty I would prefer to use the word attractive because I feel its more applicable to my opinion. There are many things in life that attract us for various reasons, but I do not really feel as though most of those are for appearance. We may see someone and be attracted to them because of the way that they look, but it is then the personality behind it that truly gets us "hooked" on them. I think that Nathan is right when he says that something can be bad and still be attractive but I believe that is false or fake beauty. When a fish sees a worm, it goes to eat it, but as soon as it realizes there is a hook in it they try to pull away (though sometimes its hard just as addiction). I believe that big B beauty is a matter of the heart and the whole package of the person or thing. We may initially be attracted to someone through appearance but we also look for certain characteristics of their personality to go with that beauty such as compassion, understanding, or trustworthiness. I believe that is is those qualities and an addition of the appearance that causes us to believe that something is TRUE beauty. You may be able to overlook a less attractive appearance for a "beautiful" soul but most of us, I think, would agree its hard (and quite shallow) to overlook an "ugly"soul just because of a beautiful face. True beauty is the how the whole package is held in the eyes of the beholder and everyone has some elements of true beauty, you just have to find the one that you are looking for.
I believe that the capital "B" Beauty is the type of beauty that makes its audience experience the "awe factor." Something that is so beautiful that it brings happiness and desire to anyone who sees it. Something or someone who is able to make everything around it beautiful as well. I think the capital "B" in beauty or capital "L" in love and the capital of other words are almost unexplainable and unattainable in or mortal word. Like Coach Philips said in class, "we say we love our mom and then we say we love Taco Bell." Those are obviously different loves and the beauty I see in someone may be quite different then the beauty I see in a sunset. I think that beauty is hard to really describe because we all see it differently, therefore I ultimately agree with Joshua in saying that the quality of beauty or the determination of Beauty with a capital "B" is determined by the viewer.
Clearly everyone sees beauty differently. Something that one person may see as beautiful may be seen as ugly to another. But I think that Beauty has two common factors: attractiveness and naturalness. Anything that has those two qualities has the ability to be beautiful, as both terms are perceived differently.
I think beauty is what we find attractive or appealing. I agree with Janey, attractiveness and naturalness make thing beautiful. I also think that things with beauty leave an affect on someone or give them emotion. Being in a beautiful place might make someone feel happy or peaceful, and they might admire the scenery. One would not get the same emotions from being in a ugly, dumpy place.
Capital B beauty, thought humanized and materialized by Physce is something that is subjective, it is different to everyone and to different cultures, what is beautiful in our culture may not be in others. You cannot really say what it beautiful and what isn't.
I believe that Beauty is something that is personal to all people. I believe that everyone has Beauty in them but that it comes out only whenever we do certain things in life that we love. So I think everyone has to find their own personal Beauty inside of themselves and that their isn’t someone who could ever be Beauty. I believe that Beauty is whatever makes you feel good about yourself and whatever seems to complete you.
Beauty, in my opinion, is different for everyone. It is what people see in the one they love. Not just how they look, but also in their personality, their laugh, and all of the things they do. I agree with Josh on how it is always changing, and when it is what you see as beauty you yourself change with it.
Beauty, with a capital B, is a very strange concept. The way that we perceive beauty, in my opinion, is all the result of things that we have grown up around or been raised based on. For instance, some people find certain look attractive whereas others see it as appalling. Some find smoking attractive whereas others do not. The Webster definition of beauty is ": the quality of being physically attractive
: the qualities in a person or a thing that give pleasure to the senses or the mind
: a beautiful woman." Beauty all depends on what your brains sees as 'beautiful' and that changes from person to person. I don't believe that there is one set of characteristics that make someone/something beautiful. I mean almost half the world, if not more than that, will agree that Beyonce for instance is beautiful, but what do they see as beautiful? Do they believe she is beautiful because of her looks, or because of her voice and the way that she acts when the paparazzi can see because nobody can see what she does when the paparazzi aren't around. Like Brenden said, beauty is personal to all people. Some people find stretch marks a beautiful thing where as others think they are hideous and should never been seen. I think describing someone or something as beautiful can be hurtful. Mainly the word beautiful is used to describe someone that is appealing to the eye. In this case with Psyche she is beautiful both inside and out. For example she walked for hours and hours outside of the gate to the palace to just touch people because they believed that her beauty could cure their sickness. Not once did she say anything about how she might get sick. She personally asked to go outside because she felt that they would only go away if she granted their wishes. She also talks about how on multiple occasions she has been asked to kiss a baby and not once did she ever decline.
Beauty is your inner looks as well as your outer looks. It's having the ability to have everyone and everything think drawn to you and look at you in a positive light. Psyche is beauty not only because of her looks, but because of her actions. She's nothing but kind and loving and she has a desire to give to others. She never complains and she always sees the brighter side of things. These characteristics are just as important as her appearance in describing her as the pinnacle of beauty.
I think beauty is a quality we attribute to anything we find value in. So, just as certain values can be shared throughout a culture and even throughout the world, so can general ideas about what constitutes beauty. Even though it's largely subjective, I think a very basic standard of beauty exists universally, and this standard points to the places we as humans find purpose and meaning.
Beauty is just something that someone finds attractive. It's something that people want to own and something that people aspire to be. I don't got much else for this, it's early and not I'm thinking straight.
My mom always told me pretty is as pretty does. I think that someone with true Beauty is perfectly Beautiful on the inside and on the outside. To be beautiful on the inside you have to be a model citizen and all around perfect. Quite hard to achieve.
I think that Beauty with a capital B means having not only outer beauty but inner beauty as well. By inner Beauty, I mean having those characteristics that make one a "model citizen," as Ann said. Psyche is not only Beautiful on the outside, but she also exemplifies inner Beauty in many instances such as when she goes out and heals all of the sick people. I also agree with Katie that everyone has different views on what makes someone "capital B-Beautiful."
Beauty comes from within. It is a combination of the most sought after traits in a person. Your attitude in pressing situations, towards strangers and your ability to be positive radiates beauty. Beautiful by definition is the appearance of something, but I believe that your outward appearance can be beautiful and your inward appearance can be hideous.
To me, beauty is something that is very rare. You can call the opposite sex cute, hot, sexy, (Insert any appearance word here), but beauty is something that goes far beyond physical appearance. Beauty is something to where you look at that person and you're proud to be with them, whether it is romantic or a friendly way. I definitely think beauty is something people overuse, but in a literal sense beauty is appearance based but I think it is something much more in depth
beauty is both physical and internal. The person could be so pretty and attractive but when you are with them they don't radiate that "beauty". just like the girl in the book, she is both stunning when you see her and when you are with her she makes the best you come out. this is what the big B beauty represents. if you are walking around with someone who is making the best you come out and is just making a sad day happy that is the real beauty and nothing can beat that.
Beauty, to me, is anything that attracts a person. Beauty can be "ugly", in a sense, because you can be attracted to something that isn't good or healthy for you. Nevertheless, even the harmful, addictive things you can find on Earth are "beautiful" in their own right.
