Discussion Board (part 2) Memory

What is your earliest memory? (Not something that someone else remembers and tells you!)

  1. I remember a moment from when I was probably about three or four years old. I lived in Donelson (still in Tennessee, about 45 minutes from where I live now) at the time, and there was a neighbor that we had who used to babysit me and my siblings. I was playing outside in this neighbor's back yard one day when all of a sudden a wasp flew out from the branches of a large oak tree in the yard and stung the back of my neck. I remember my neighbor trying to calm me down because I didn't know what had happened at all, and had never heard of a wasp before. We went to this market somewhere with a bunch of tents, and there were lots of toys and trinkets being sold at each tent. I found a small, plastic pokémon toy that I liked, and she bought it for me. I ended up losing it a year or so later, but it was one of the coolest things I'd ever had as a kid.

  2. I remember back really far. I cannot tell you how old I was, maybe 1 or 2 years old (I understand that this may be hard to believe). It was very brief, and all I remember in that moment is being picked up and held by an old lady, named Ms. Sandy, in a nursery. I simply remember feeling alone and lost and in need of my mother. It was dark in the room but light outside. I was crying, more like sobbing, while I was lowered back into my crib, and that is honestly all I can recall on the matter. And in times when I felt like maybe it was just a dream or something, my mom told me that there was a woman named Ms. Sandy who had past away by the time I was almost 2 and that she does remember me crying when she handed me over to her, that day specifically because I was crying really hard. I like to believe that this is my first memory, despite the seeming unlikeliness because of my age at the time.

  3. I for one have a lot of trouble with remembering events in my life as a child, but there is one incident that happened to me when I was about 8 or 9 that I can remember like it was yesterday. My family (mom, dad, and brother) and I were returning from our trip to Louisiana and it was around 12 o'clock by time we got home. We were all quickly unpacking the car eagerly ready to go to bed.The last item I brought in was my pillow. We have a long hallway in our home that my brother and I would often slide down with socks on.For some reason I decided that it would be fun if I slid down the hall on my pillow, so I ran, jumped on my pillow, and began to slide. Then, when I tried to stop I put my feet down and my chin when straight into the hardwood floor. Since I had busted my chin open when I was very young it was very tender and cracked right open. I was bleeding profusely from my chin and crying while my mom held a cloth under my chin and my dad drove to the emergency room. All my brother wanted to do was see my chin.... then once we got to the ER we waited until the doctor called us back and they stitched my chin right up. I can even remember the two doctors in the room joking about messing up my stitches and me being scared that they actually did. Although they eventually took my stitches out you can still see and feel the scare from where they were. I can remember bits and pieces of other memories but nothing as detailed as this one.

  4. I remember being three or so, and I had been laying down for a nap. I woke up and the room was brighter, and there was something like a light near by door. I climbed down and started playing near the light, treating it as if it were a friend. My mom caught me playing during my nap time, and I remember being upset because when she came in, the light disappeared. I don't know what it was, or if it was actually a dream.

  6. I was maybe three or four and it was my birthday. My Grandmother made me a barbie cake. It had a barbie in the middle, and her skirt was made out of cake. I remember being so excited about it. That is all...

  7. I'm not sure if this really is my earliest memory or if I am remembering someone telling me about it at some point, but I was 2 almost 3 and we had a water slide for our backyard pool in Connecticut and I remeber going down it with my aunt and crying afterwards. I'm not sure why I was crying.

  10. When I was little I was allergic to everything but rice and water. I used to be obsessed with Winnie the Pooh and after getting series of shots (42 each time) in my back I slowly stopped being allergic to certain things. The first birthday "cake" I ever had was my third birthday cake that consisted of red jello that was made in a Winnie the Pooh cake pan and food colored whipped cream that was applied to make the jello look like Winnie the Pooh.

  12. I remember one tiny thing from when I was 2 years old. I crawled down the stairs and looked around the corner at my sister's friends singing happy birthday to her because it was her 4th birthday party. It was a "Barbie" themes birthday party and I remember crying because a balloon popped and it scared me

  14. Mine's pretty foggy, but it was my family and I going to a mall during Christmas and going to see Santa. I must have be 3 because I remember my oldest (but not older than me) sister being there, but having not had my brother and younger sister adopted yet. I remember being on the second floor of the mall looking at all the huge ornaments hanging in the main plaza where Santa was. That's about it, just looking at huge ornaments and looking back at my mom, dad, and baby sister.

  15. I want to say I was 3 years old. My sister was not born yet and it was my birthday. I woke up from my nap and all of these people were at my house. Actually I dont know if it was at my house. Maybe I was 2? I DONT KNOW! Anyways. I went ouside with my grandmother and I guess everyone else. Then Mimi started bubbles and I started chasing them and eating them.

  17. I would say the most vivid memory I have from my childhood would be when I broke my arm. I was in 3rd grade, and my birthday was coming up in a few days. I was planning on taking some friends up to my lake house for the next weekend to celebrate. Anyways, I went over to my neighbors house and we wanted to roller skate. So I put on her mom's skates which were obviously too big for me but I wore them anyways. Then we went up to the top of a little hill and skated down the hill on the sidewalk. Seeing a large crack in the sidewalk, I decided to jump over it while flying down the hill on these huge skates. When I jumped, I lost balance and fell, catching myself with my right arm. When I looked down, my bone was sticking out (not out of my skin), but my radius bone was completely broken in half and sticking up, making a huge bump on my arm. I ran across the street in terror as these two women passed by with their little kids and they just stared at me while I was screaming, "I think my arm is broken!!" What a help they were. Anyways, I never got to bring my friends to my lake house for my birthday, and instead I laid in bed with my arm propped up on a pillow while my friends came and visited me.

  18. I must have been about one year old. I was being babysat by my dads great grandmother. I remember being carried into this house that was small and had dark hardwoods that were beat up. I was put in an old school high chair in the kitchen and I hear mens voices coming from this room that was a ways away from the kitchen and down two steps that were carpet. I saw the bright blue light of a TV flashing on and off from commercials I assume. There was a woody doll from Toy Story on the counter. The lady put cheerios on my high chair table and I ate them very slowly and stared at her while listening to the men.

  19. The first memory I have was me playing tee ball at about 4 or 5, maybe 6... I don't know. Anyways, I remember the rules was everyone went up to the tee, and the whole team hit through once and everyone got one base. We did that for 3 or 4 innings, the game would end, and at the end of the season, everyone got a trophy. Even at the young age I was, that really pissed me off because I wanted to run more bases and earn my trophy.

P.S. I have another memory but involves punching and a groin so I'm going to leave that one out.

  20. one of my first memories was when I was about 2 years old and my father had already taught me how to swim so he would throw me into a pool. I always wanted to do what my brother does so when he went into the pool every time he would go straight down and touch the drain. so i remember my dad throwing me in and looking straight at the drain and going to touch it and after swimming straight up stairing at my dad.
